Read this first: Garmin advertises a 140° field of view on the Mini 3. Independent testing measured roughly 119°. That is a meaningful gap on a headline spec, and it changes how these two compare.

What you are actually choosing between
On specification this is lopsided. The A119 Mini 2 records at twice the resolution and twice the frame rate, has GPS to stamp location and speed onto footage, and has a far more capable parking mode. For evidence after a collision, those three things are what matter.
The Mini 3 is not trying to beat it on any of that. It is selling invisibility and simplicity — a camera the size of a car key that disappears behind the mirror, with no screen to distract you and voice control so you never touch it.
Where the Garmin genuinely wins
- Size. Nothing else is this small. If a visible dash cam bothers you, or the car is leased and you want it unobtrusive, that is a real reason.
- The built-in polarizer. Windscreen glare ruins more footage than low resolution does. Garmin includes the filter; on most rivals it is an extra you have to remember to buy and fit.
- No GPS can be a feature. If you would rather your own speed was not recorded on the footage, the Mini 3 does not record it.
Which one
- Buy the A119 Mini 2 if you want the footage to be usable evidence — better resolution, higher frame rate, GPS, proper parking protection. It is the stronger camera by a clear margin.
- Buy the Garmin Mini 3 if discretion and simplicity outrank image quality, and you want glare handled out of the box.
Given the measured field of view falls well short of the advertised figure, be careful about buying the Mini 3 specifically for wide coverage. That is the one claim not to rely on.
